Low on script viruses. Terrible on backdoors and trojans
Terrible archive support, only supports one-level zip archives
Doesn't scan incoming and outgoing emails, only scans if you open an email
Cannot remove viruses from email messages, you have to delete the messages manually
Though small install, eTrust EZ Anti-Virus requires a lot of RAM

Review - eTrust EZ Anti-Virus

Not much to say about this antivirus solution. Overall eTrust EZ Anti-Virus offers poor virus protection. Support for archive formats is terrible, eTrust EZ Anti-Virus only scans single level ZIP-files, with no support for nested archives or self-extracting archives. Email support is limited, eTrust EZ Anti-Virus only scans incoming emails, and only when you open messages, and then you have to delete infected messages yourself. This program is also vulnerable to attacks, and requires a lot of RAM to run efficiently.

Instead of offering a decent virus protection, we suspect Computer Associates of trying to deceive computer users with a slick and easy-to-use interface along with automated updates. The program itself is not good. It's incredible that this software has received favourable reviews from CNET and others.

eTrust EZ Anti-Virus was formerly known as InoculateIT Personal Edition The vendor is also responsible for InoculateIT, a corporate antivirus solution.

Known for its corporate security software, Computer Associates (CA) is making a move to bring its antivirus technology to individuals and small businesses. EZ Anti-Virus offers a solid defence against viruses and worms, whatever their source, and its low cost, $19.95, makes it even more attractive. Unfortunately, its technical support is costly and available only during limited hours, and we wish it could intercept e-mail viruses before they reach an e-mail in-box--a must-have feature.
